Docudharma- which is great - but this is information that MANY people need to know about Mexico.
This movement is important...(I left San Cristobal one day before the original Zapatista occupation, and have always been sorry that I missed it.)
The importance of the movement is in how it has helped to empower the indigenous ( and everyone, really, who feels disenfrachised) in Mexico.

I often hear Americans comment that Mexico is not a racist country...but that is simply not the truth. If they could hear a friend of mine talk about this issue, ( she is highly intelligent, educated and very funny...ans she is Mexican of mixed Indian, Black, and anglo heritage), it would give them a  lot of clarity.

The reason that the Zapitista movement started in Ciapas is because it NEEDED to...Chiapas was incredibly feudal ( still is, but not quite as much...because of the Zapatistas).

Mexicans are smart, resourceful and very tough. If the powers that be try to implemant a North American Union, I think Mexico will be the stumbling block.
