Hillary: "United we stand, divided we fall"

Tonight in Kentucky Hillary Clinton cited, with no ironic awareness, the motto of the state of Kentucky at the end of her speech.

You know, the state motto of Kentucky is, "United we stand, divided we fall," words that have a special place in our history. They inspire American revolutionaries to unite the colonies, to defy an empire, and create a new nation, to invent a new form of government, of the people, by the people, and for the people, and they bound our nation together in service and sacrifice, even in our darkest hours.

We will come together as a party, united by common values and common cause, united in service of the hopes and dreams that know no boundaries of race or creed, gender or geography. And when we do, there will be no stopping us.

Hillary also showed no sense of irony when she said:

I have done it -- I have done it not because I've wanted to demonstrate my toughness, but because I believe passionately that, for the sake of our country, the Democrats must take back the White House and end Republican rule

But in private, to reporters, she denies any effects of racism while claiming that she is the victim of sexism:

Rather, in private conversations and in interviews, Mrs. Clinton has begun asserting that she believes sexism, rather than racism, has cast a shadow over the primary fight, a point some of her supporters have made for months. Advisers say that continuing her candidacy is partly a means to show her supporters — especially young women — that she is not a quitter and will not be pushed around.

Hillary should reflect on how the polling data for black women have changed over the primary season. Before Bill Clinton tried to marginalize Obama by painting him as the black candidate, Hillary was polling well with black women. While the commercial media has shown blatant sexism, black women are aware of both racism and sexism. Their votes tell the story of which is a bigger problem in this election.

Apparently Hillary is expecting a big win in Puerto Rico.

Some Clinton aides say she is expecting a particularly big vote on June 1 in Puerto Rico, given her strong support among Hispanics. Howard Wolfson, her communications direction, said campaign aides were "optimistic" about Puerto Rico.

Seriously!

Wolfson, the communications specialist, should explain to Hillary that dividing the country along racial, ethnic and gender boundaries is not consistent with:

United we stand, divided we fall

She has now lost the elected delegate count.

Wolfson should explain to Hillary that dividing the Democratic party by elected delegates and superdelegates is not consistent with:

United we stand, divided we fall

Hillary Clinton would do well to contemplate the meaning of her message.
