Some research data re. Jan 29 Fla. primary vote

Fri May 23, 2008 at 07:34:03 AM PDT

Fellow Kossacks, I began to do some research on the Florida primary and a very little on Michigan, and have gathered some data, but unfortunately I simply do not have the time to finish and put together a decent diary.

So, I wanted to post the information that I have collected and if anyone else thinks it is of use at this point, please feel free to use it.  Perhaps it has also been diaried.  Perhaps my line of research is not important.  There are some pretty savvy people on this site, so I trust that they will make the determination if this is of any use.

This whole primary situation has been spun more than cotton candy.  Part of Hillary's argument is that people went out to vote for her.  I am not so sure that that accounts for all the vote or even the motivation to vote.  It MAY be that the people went out to vote on a property tax amendment and at the same time voted for her?  I only heard a snippet of this information at the time and since then the media hasn't included it in their presentation.  If it is an important variable, here is some information:

To this end I was searching the following facts:

In Florida:

  1. Was the primary open or closed?

ans> "Closed", but anyone could register the day of the
primary as a Dem. and vote in the primary that day.

  1. What is the number of registered Democrats in Fla.?

  ans> contact "bking@fladems.com" (haven't done this.)

  1. What is the number of Dems. who voted in Fla.?  What

percentage of registered Dems. voted in the Primary?  Did
the percentage of registered Dems. for that primary
significantly differ with other primaries?  Did the
percentage of Republicans registered vs. voted vary
  significantly in this primary?
  ans> contact "bking@fladems.com"  (haven't done this.)

  1. What else was on the ballot state-wide that would have

  drawn people to the polls?
ans> there was a state-wide property tax amendment
on the ballot which was of interest to people to go out
  and vote.

  1. What was the impact on the voters of this amendment; what

type of advertising was done to encourage voting on this
amendment?  What did the amendment say?(a copy of it.)
  ans> haven't gotten this yet.

Contact Information:

Florida:

Florida Dept. of State Elections:  (850) 245-6200

They told me that the Total registered Republicans and Democrats registered in the state of Florida are:
10,203,112 and of that number, 4,268,602 voted equalling a vote of 41.8% of registered voters.  Democrats and Republicans voted that day, and could not cross vote, but could register party affiliation on the day of the voting.

Florida Democratic Party (850) 222-3411
www.fladems.com

This office gave me the contact person's email "bking@fladems.com" for statistics re. Dems registered and voting, etc.  They also gave me the information re. the property tax amendment.

If anyone is interested in Michigan, the contact for the Michigan Dem. party is (517) 371-5410.  That was fun asking them re. their organization: anyone could register that day, declaring themselves to be a Democrat and that they have no data on how many registered Democrats there are in the state, so that they could not give statistics about what percentage voted.

So, if this information has any relevance at this point, please use it.

Anything to help bring the truth out!

On to Barack's nomination!

UPDATE:  Thanks for the comment below re. the filing date for party affiliation.  Please be clear, this is information that I have gathered from phone calls and before diaried, would need to be documented.  I am not claiming that this information is all accurate; this represents the beginning of my search and what I was told.
