Let'$ Thank Rep Murtha
Thu Nov 17, 2005 at 10:33:32 PM PDT
Tonight Congressman Murtha made my life a living hell.
I consider myself a Google pro. I can usually narrow my search terms to the point where I get the results I am looking for in the first five search results.
I thought it would be nice to thank the veteran from Pennsylvania with some of the money I was unable to spend for new ski boots tonight.
And to provide a convenient link to fellow Kossacks who might be similarly inclined to thank the old dog with cold cash. To reward the Congressman for his outstanding speech today. For speaking Truth to Power in a manner we can all relate to.
US Denies the use of Illegal Weapons in Fallujah
Thu Nov 10, 2005 at 03:08:24 PM PDT
I was struck by yesterday's popular diary about the US admission that it used WP as a weapon. I considered the diary title a misnomer and still do. I considered it highly unlikely that any official statement on the topic was made or would be forthcoming unless it was a denial.
Today we get that denial. From actual "Official" sources no less.
IMF helping poor? Pigs Fly?
Sat Jun 04, 2005 at 05:16:33 PM PDT
The following is an excerpt of an e-mail I sent to Russell Mokhibar who has done some reporting on the proposed IMF gold revaluation and sales to benefit African nations.
Something smells very fishy in all of this African debt relief talk coming out of the the Treasury department in the UK.
Ask yourself when has an entrenched politician of Gordon Brown's stature ever taken a position that comes out so strongly in favor of poor, disenfranchised people. In his own country, let alone Africa?
W - Clean up your own mess!
Wed Nov 03, 2004 at 05:46:04 PM PDT
When considering a Kerry victory, I always thought how sad it was that if elected Kerry would have to clean up the President's mess. That the focus of a Kerry presidency would not be on what Kerry was truly capable of doing, but on fixing the problems Bush has created.
I worried that the economic and geopolitical mess would fall into the Democrats hands at the worst possible time. Not a hot potato but a red-hot hand grenade with the pin already pulled.
POLL: CO Amendment 36
Sun Oct 03, 2004 at 11:54:37 AM PDT
One issue in Colorado is how to vote for Amendment 36.
The Amendment would allocate Colorado's electoral votes based on the percentage of votes cast for each Candidate. If approved the changes would be effective for the November 2004 Presidential election.
I have yet to hear where Ken Salazar & KE04 stand on this subject?
John Kerry was Presidential!
Thu Sep 30, 2004 at 09:12:43 PM PDT
Kerry was Presidential!
It is one thing to SPIN it that way, but tonight John Kerry clearly demonstrated that he has the mojo to be a great Commander-in-Chief.
Admittedly, my standards have come down during the past four years. With tonight's performance John Kerry attained my old idealistic vision of what it means to be Presidential.
I can't begin to describe how psyched I was watching John Kerry's persona come to light during the course of the debate.
In a great showing the man demonstrated strength, decisiveness, confidence, intelligence, expertise, integrity, competence, experience, & vision. I could go on as I am sure others will.
All I know is this: Suppose an alien landed on earth tonight and watched the debates with the volume turned off. If you asked the alien to choose which was the leader of the planet's most powerful nation they clearly would have chosen John Kerry.
Yeah baby!
ORANGE ALERT this Friday!
Mon Sep 27, 2004 at 06:02:21 PM PDT
Just want to give the Kossack community a heads up. Following Kerry's victory in Thursday night's debate, the nation will raise the color-coded terror alert level.
Tom Ridge or John Ashcroft or both will hold a press conference to notify the nation that they don't have any "specific" new information but that the "chatter" level on sites they monitor has risen.
The oh-so compliant media will gladly change the subject from Kerry sweeping the Miami room with Bush to the "new" threat.
Since DHS used financial centers in their last alert I am wondering what they will come up with for their next alert. As desperate as Rove & Co are, I will guess that the latest threat is to our nation's schools. On the heels of Beslan, DHS certainly needs to warn the American public in case they haven't made the connection.

One issue that the Kerry camp has been awfully silent on is the high price of gasoline.
The higher price of gas is another byproduct of Bush's mismanaged war effort. How could Chimp not foresee that fuel prices would rise and put a damper on the economy? If Bush had waited to wage war, he could have filled the Strategic Petroleum Reserves at better prices. At present the US is in competition with the military and the rest of the world as consumers. Chimp still would have been helping his oil buddies, but not on such a gross scale.
Is the high oil price and it's negative effect on the economy kryptonite? Can Kerry use the subject to his his advantage during the remainder of the campaign?
Yankees KO Boston
Fri Sep 24, 2004 at 10:21:59 PM PDT
From an open thread last week.
Yankee pitching was excellent following a poor month. That is what is good about this homestand. Mariano walked & hit a batter. That might happen again.
He did walk one batter but allowed no runs and got a save.
The only negative I see for the Yankees is that now Francona will know to give Pedro the hook early. Bosox is better off going to the relievers if Pedro even makes it 6-7 innings in a close game.
Francona didn't learn from his and O'Grady's mistakes. Hope he does this again in the playoffs. Pedro is weak after 32 starts and looks weak after 70 pitches.
Big Media Uncensored....
Fri Sep 24, 2004 at 09:30:40 PM PDT
Folks it does not get any clearer than this. Mr. Redstone clearly tells us why the Liberal Media has moved Right. Big media finally comes clean and tells us why they take the stands they do. The company is the man, the man is the company. Borg.
Yesterday, the chairman of CBS's parent company chose Hong Kong as a place to drop a little bomb. Sumner Redstone, who calls himself a "liberal Democrat," said he's supporting President Bush.
The chairman of the entertainment giant Viacom said the reason was simple: Republican values are what U.S. companies need. Speaking to some of America's and Asia's top executives gathered for Forbes magazine's annual Global CEO Conference, Mr. Redstone declared: "I look at the election from what's good for Viacom. I vote for what's good for Viacom. I vote, today, Viacom.
"I don't want to denigrate Kerry," he went on, "but from a Viacom standpoint, the election of a Republican administration is a better deal. Because the Republican administration has stood for many things we believe in, deregulation and so on. The Democrats are not bad people. . . . But from a Viacom standpoint, we believe the election of a Republican administration is better for our company."
Sharing the stage with Mr. Redstone was Steve Forbes, CEO, president and editor in chief of Forbes and a former Republican presidential aspirant, who quipped: "Obviously you're a very enlightened CEO."
Substitute the word Viacom with any other big media corporation and things get clearer. Not that we didn't know this already but who ever thought someone would let this slip?

Strategic Oil Reserves
Fri Sep 17, 2004 at 01:04:55 PM PDT
Here is your chance to go on the record predicting what day the Chimp-in-Chief will announce he is releasing oil from the nation's strategic reserves. Clearly a political manuever, I imagine he'll deny this and say he is doing it to boost the economy and stop speculation. This may be a potential October surprise.
There are many considerations regarding the timing of the announcement. For example, the release needs to be timed to have an appreciable effect on equity markets. On the other hand, if oil prices reverse and head even higher after the announcement, Bush is in trouble.
Your thoughts?
BTW I'll take October 18 w/ Drudge citing rumors of a release on Sunday Eve the 17th.

FreewayBlogger Update

Here is an update on the freewayblogger's September 7th action:
One Man.... One Day.... One Hundred Signs....
From his blog:
Dear Readers, Here's how it went:
I left at midnight, heading up the 405 and posting signs on trees, fencing, signbacks and overpasses. Nothing fancy, just small and midsized signs reading "Osama Who?" "Bush Lied", "The War is a Lie" and "Osama Bin Forgotten". Things went smoothly until sign #33 on the Sepulveda Pass. I was pulled over and rummaging around in the back of my truck when I got hit with the Kleig lights of the CHP. Two officers got out: one white and one black. The white guy did the talking: "What's going on?....."
Be sure to check out the new photos at his homepage. Or go and visit just to see the old ones again.
Kos subscription ONLY site?
Sun Sep 12, 2004 at 10:32:34 PM PDT
The more popular Kos becomes the harder it is to separate wheat from chaff. There are a lot of trolls and a lot of inane comments. Finding real gems in the diaries is becoming more and more time consuming.
Who would support a DKos premium membership which would allow subscribers to compose and reply but no body else? This feature would run along side of the existing service but would be a smaller community which I presume many of the early Kossacks would join.
If you are in favor of such a scenario please let Markos know by recommending this diary or whatever other means you have of communicating the idea too him.
Realizing that it would would be a shame to divert money away from the candidates at this point in the electoral process I suggest Markos implement the premium service right after the election (read: Kerry 's victory) at a cost of $15-25 per person. Wag the Dog
Thu Sep 09, 2004 at 08:10:06 AM PDT
Nothing is more despicable than our troops lives being put in the line of fire for partisan reasons. The fact that it does happen is simply another reason to hate war.
Coincidence? During the RNC US troops were in their foxholes. Did anybody hear about offensive operations then? No, they were trying to make it look like they were making progress with Sadr. Chimpy wanted to avoid any untimely deaths being reported in the news.
Then as recent negative allegation arise on several fronts the Iraq offensive goes back into full swing. George Bush is truly the lowest of the low.
Has Bush helped The Economy?
Mon Sep 06, 2004 at 06:23:24 PM PDT
-I am not kidding & I am not a troll but I offer the following for reasoned discussion-
One could argue that Bush has actually helped the economy temporarily: Here's how.
By waging war in two nations he forced the Federal Reserve to maintain extraordinarily low interest rates.
Low rates have helped profits at many large companies. Think Ford, a bank posing as a car manufacturer.
Low rates have been a boon for the construction industry. Record new home starts and remodels due to low rates & home equity loans.
Low rates have caused housing prices to skyrocket. As a result of the wealth effect consumer spending continues to buoy the economy.
Low rates (and lower capital gains taxes) have kept the stock market artificially high. The resultant wealth effect has led to continued consumer spending.
Low rates have been a boon to banks, brokerages, and Fannie/Freddie. As an example, high equity indices are a boon to brokerages making margin loans. The higher individual's equity accounts stand the higher margin loan profits the brokerage stands to make.
One could argue that without Bush's helpful hand (vs. the invisible hand) we would have already met the financial day of reckoning because our speculative debt laden economy is unsustainable.
The two wars have been a boon to profits at defense & security related businesses.
Finally, energy related businesses are making a killing off of high petrol prices. With all the profits they'll be able to take on even the strongest environmental lobby to assure their continued profitability for years to come.
